Passing Notes

Last week, I posted this on Steph's blog and I loved it so much I wanted y'all to see it here too!!! Hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed typing it up!!!  :)

Today I wanted to talk to y'all about passing notes. Remember when we were in middle school and passing notes was THE THING to do? Well, apparently....it still IS the thing to do! You see, I teach 8th grade, and believe me when I tell you....I've SEEN IT ALL when it comes to note-passing.

Just a warning...if a few curse words are offensive to you, I apologize!!! I'm showing you the notes AS I FOUND THEM, in all their glory!!!

Let me show you...

Exhibit A:

Christmas 2010. Student passes me a note. It's a Christmas card. I'm SO EXCITED. The card looks so pretty!

The outside of my card

Then....I open it.....

Isn't that just the nicest thing you ever read?!!?! I was so so so shocked!!!!!! Needless to say, this child was suspended.

Exhibit B:

September 23, 2011.

Student writes an open letter letting everyone know why he's failing my English class....

Yeah...its MY fault you don't As and Bs, buddy.

Exhibit C:

January, 2012

Young man passes this note to a young lady sitting next to him....

Who says romance is dead???

Not all the notes I collect are bad, though!!!!

This one was my favorite. He always called me his "angel" because I helped him pass all his tests!!! So sweet!

This next note I just found last week....I teach at a new school now, and you can see a HUGE difference in the way these kids think compared to the way the kids at my last school did....

I love how he said she reminded him of a cute Korean pop star!!! LOL!!!

Happy Friday, loves!!!!

I teach 4th grade and I had to laugh when I saw your notes! I usually pick up things along the lines of "Do you think Miss B is so hot?" or "She's so mean!!!!" but thankfully my kids don't use curse words in notes (yet).

Gotta love em!

Holy Schnikies!!! I cannot believe what those kids wrote!

The last one is so so sweet though. Adorable!

Wow, I don't think I'd have tough enough skin to deal with kids writing unkind things about me. My respect for teachers just tripled (and it was a high level to begin with!) But it seems like you're at a much better school now =) Sweet kids!

omg that first christmas card is crazy!

I work at the Central Office for our district as the Communications/Community Relations Coordinator and when I was helping a middle school by proctoring EOGs in May I had a kid say, "Ms. Edmondson, have you got some black in you?" I said, "No, sure don't" and he responded with, "Would you like some?". I was speechless.

OMG I'm horrified at the "wanna go to my house" note!! SERIOUSLY?? Although, when I taught 5th grade 17 years ago, I confiscated a note from a girl where she was describing herself dressed up in lingerie giving a BJ. Yep. 5th grade. Needless to say, we brought in the parents. She was horrified...but not as horrified as her parents! Glad you also have your 'angels'!!

I just died laughing. That Christmas card...I think I might have laughed my head off at her and then sent her to the officer. Points for creativity, I guess!

OH Wow!Those notes are awful! Except for the last two...Made me laugh though, after I picked my jaw up off the floor :)

Kids are craaaazy!!!!! And that's just a few proofs of it. I hope that note about "effing" at a house was from someone over the age of 16...but I doubt it looking at all the handwritings. Ugh so sad. :(

WOW - I can't believe these!!! These kids have some guts, I could have never done anything like that when I was that age! I was too chicken and my parents would have probably killed me!

Rachel said...

Oh my goodness! I couldn't believe my eyes when you opened that Christmas card. Ha! I agree with what Meghan posted... my parents would have grounded me for life!

Those were some brazen children at the last school. I saw the same thing in NYC and LA. Shock at first, and then it became normal... which is sad!

The angel card is too precious, though! I love it! You really do make a difference, and just spending time with you at blogger events has proven to me that you really are as kind, funny, and intelligent as you seem on your blog. Michelle, you are awesome! Baby Apple scored big time in the mama department!

Wow, I guess romance really isn't dead! At least that boy was getting straight to his point in that note! Gotta give him props for that, I guess.

I love that card with a heart and a halo. It is absolutely adorable! :)

SO FLIPPIN" HILARIOUS!! The one that stands out to me is the nice Merry Christmas card on the outside, then BOOOOOM.. slammed on the inside! JEEEZE!!!

Korean Pop Star?!?! A still doing the yes/no check/circle one?! Never gets old! That's how my hubs snatched my heart 10 years ago!

These kids are getting more bold as years go on... I can't believe they say what they say and they know what they know.. unbelievable!!!

Michelle said...

These are AMAZING!! I love that kids are still passing notes...I got caught passing notes in middle school to the boy I had a crush on and a teacher read it out loud to the whole cafeteria. I still want to die!

WOW. My son is a Middle schooler (6th) this year and some of those notes make me AFRAID for him. I wished we had more time to chat at the HBSymposium but I thought you asked a good question. It was a fun time. I'm a subscriber now so keep the good stuff coming!
